My Personal Story

I'm a homeschool mom of three, a coach and an educator. I enjoy being able to offer guidance, support and inspiration to other homeschooling families. I have been fortunate enough to coach and mentor many parents in the planning of their homeschool curriculum and schedules.

I have been coordinating homeschool cooperatives for close to a decade and have had the privilege of helping my children along with many of their homeschooled friends, experience science, history and literature using an eclectic mix of approaches. I believe all children have their own unique ways of learning, so I do my best to cater to how they learn.

I'm also a coach for two elementary and intermediate robotics teams which has helped me to inspire a love of science and technology to even more families.

I truly believe that sometimes it actually does take a village (as the saying goes), so I decided to start this blog to continue to build my community.

My hope is that by sharing my adventures, and some lessons learned along the way, I can help make someone else’s homeschool journey just a little bit easier.

Why Do I Homeschool?

It’s what works for my family, plain and simple. Let me give you a little background…

My oldest is autistic and when he turned 3, we had our appointment with our local school system to get him started in a preschool program for special needs children. I was apprehensive because I knew my son did not do well with strangers. But what made it more uncomfortable for me was that my precious, non-verbal 3yr old was going to be locked in a classroom all day without a way to advocate for himself. He was going to have to stop singing when he wanted to sing, to stop spinning and dancing when he wanted to dance, just because he had to conform to the standards set by the public school system. It just didn't feel right to me. Despite these unsettling feelings, I took him to his evaluation with the administrators anyway, because that's what I was supposed to do. I was just not educated enough on alternatives at that time.

Well, needless to say, it didn’t go according to plan and I walked out of there with a renewed sense of purpose. I was going to homeschool my child because there just had to be a better way for us. I found other homeschoolers, learned from them, with them, researched the benefits of homeschooling and just knew I had most definitely found our better way. Here we are 10 years later and I'm still homeschooling him along with his two younger siblings. Have I ever second guessed my decision, nope, not once. Has it been smooth sailing, nope, not at all, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
